Welcome to the Peninsula Symphonic Band!
It is such a great pleasure to serve as the Music Director for this amazing community band. The members are talented and friendly and work very hard to produce four to six quality concerts each year.
This year the band will launch its 33rd year of making rousing music in Door County. Founded in 1990, the band was finally able to celebrate its 30th anniversary (delayed by the pandemic) with the World Premiere of Randall Standridge’s “Homeward Shores” which the band commissioned.
Membership in the band is open to any high school or adult musician who has a reasonable instrumental proficiency and the desire to join with other like-minded musicians to make great music. The ensemble rehearses on Monday evenings from 7 – 8:30 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay. There are two seasons each year: March thru July and September thru December.
In addition to the symphonic band, we also have a big band which performs traditional jazz and swing favorites four to six times each year. The Swingin’ Door Big Band is composed of talented musicians invited by the music director. These performances are held at venues that are designed for this type of musical ensemble and that offer food and a dance floor.
