What is Peninsula Symphonic Band?
Peninsula Symphonic Band is Door County’s community concert band. Since 1990, this volunteer ensemble has brought together musicians of all ages and backgrounds to perform concerts and take part in special events throughout the county, all while making music and building community.

Who are the members of Peninsula Symphonic Band?
Peninsula Symphonic Band is a true community band. Our members range from high school and college students to retired adults, and from dedicated amateurs to professional musicians, united by a shared passion for making great music together.

Who is the director of Peninsula Symphonic Band?
Jason Palmer has served as Peninsula Symphonic Band’s fourth Music Director since 2018. You can read more about Jason here.

Who can join the band?
Musicians who play a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument at a high school level or above are welcome to join.

When is the best time to join?
The start of a new season – fall or spring – is the ideal time to join, but new members are welcomed throughout the season depending on the needs of the ensemble.

When and where are rehearsals?
Rehearsals take place Monday evenings from 7:00-8:30pm at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay. Please enter through the large parking lot on 18th Avenue.

Our seasons are:

  • Spring/Summer: April – July
  • Fall: September – December

What should I bring to rehearsal?

  • Your printed music (new music will be emailed before the first rehearsal)
  • Music stand (stand lights are also helpful)
  • Brass players:  a towel for emptying water keys

How many concerts Does Peninsula Symphonic Band perform each year?
Peninsula Symphonic Band typically performs:

  • Three to four spring/summer concerts at locations throughout Door County
  • Two fall concerts in Sturgeon Bay – a Veterans Day Concert and a Holiday Concert

Are rehearsals mandatory?
Participation is voluntary. We encourage members to attend as regularly as possible, and ask that you let the Music Director know in advance if you’ll need to miss a rehearsal or concert.

What kind of music does the band perform?
Our programs feature a wide variety of traditional concert band repertoire, including patriotic marches, film and popular music, big band medleys, holiday selections, and contemporary works.

Is there a fee to join?
Yes. A $20 per-season membership fee helps offset the cost of music, equipment, and the director’s stipend.

Do I need tickets for concerts?
No – all Peninsula Symphonic Band concerts are free and open to the public. Freewill donations are gratefully accepted and help sustain the band’s operations.

Do I need to purchase a uniform?

Spring/summer uniform:
Navy Peninsula Symphonic Band polo (available for purchase), optional Peninsula Symphonic Band crewneck sweatshirt, khaki pants/shorts/capris, and brown or black shoes.

Fall uniform:

  • Veterans Day Concert: White top, black bottoms, black shoes (collared shirts for men)
  • Holiday Concert: Black bottoms, dark shoes, and a festive or holiday-style top (no T-shirts; collared shirts for men, ties optional)

  • Arrive early to assist with set up
  • Stay after rehearsal to help reset the space
